Introduction
Educated in South Africa, Peter started work with the Department of Justice and at the time of leaving was a Public Prosecutor.
In 1996 Peter commenced a Bachelor of Law degree whilst working full time as a director of Biz Afrika (Pty) Ltd, a specialist management consultancy. After completing this degree in December 2001 Peter was admitted as an Advocate in May 2002.
Notwithstanding a very busy practice, in July 2003 Peter started a Masters Degree in Maritime Law, which he completed in eighteen months.
Peter was admitted to practice in England and Wales on 9 October 2008.
Peter is admitted to practice in England and Wales and in South Africa. His practise is divided between Maritime Law, Matrimonial, Criminal and Civil litigation.
Maritime Law
Peter’s Maritime experience is in the areas of maritime insurance, contracts of afreightment, collisions and incidents of navigation and international trade law. His specialist area of practise is in advising the maritime security industry, shippers and insurers regarding the provision of armed guards on vessels in pirate dominated waters. He advises maritime security companies on regulatory matters of compliance in UK and international legislation.
Criminal Law
Peter regularly appears in the Crown and Magistrates Courts in criminal matters both for the prosecution and the defence. He has appeared in robbery, drugs and drug related, serious public disorder and sexual offences matters. He has also prosecuted for Customs and Revenue in illegal Importation cases and benefit fraud.
In addition Peter specializes in advising companies who intend investing or which have investments in South Africa on their legal obligations in that jurisdiction and what measures to implement to avoid incurring criminal prosecution there.
Civil Law
Peter’s civil experience encompass a broad range of civil matters in which he has acted for both Claimant’s and Defendant’s in matters of contract, personal injury, credit hire, torts, road traffic accidents, applying for and opposing injunctive relief and in property disputes between landlord and tenant and against trespassers.
Family Law
Peter has experienced in most areas of Family Law, particularly ancillary relief, pensions, and private companies. He is regularly involved in S8 Applications.
Personal Interests
Peter enjoys a variety of water sports, rugby, and the martial arts. He is a keen golfer and enjoys hunting, although these days mostly with a camera.
