Neil Johnstone is a barrister with a broad civil practice. He accepts instructions in all forms of civil disputes and contested litigation, and regularly represents clients in Fast Track, Intermediate Track and Multi-Track matters.

Neil has experience of advocacy, drafting, and advisory work across a range of civil proceedings. His practice includes trials, interim applications, case management hearings, costs-related hearings, and appeals, with experience at levels up to and including the Court of Appeal.

Before moving into private practice, Neil served as a Royal Marines officer and was one of the first Royal Marines Commandos selected to serve in the Naval Legal Service. He appeared as a prosecutor in courts martial and developed significant advocacy experience in contested proceedings.

Neil undertook the Bar Professional Training Course at the University of London, graduating with distinction, before completing postgraduate study at the University of Oxford in Public International Law and the Law of Armed Conflict.

Neil is regularly instructed to advise on prospects, evidence, quantum, litigation strategy and settlement. He also undertakes written advice and drafting work, including pleadings, schedules, skeleton arguments and other court documents.
