Legal Experience

Michael qualified as solicitor in 2008 and transferred to the Bar in 2010. He completed pupillage at Kings Bench Chambers and has appeared in Chancery, Crown and Magistrates Courts in both civil and criminal matters.

Michael was admitted to the New York bar in September 2005; he has represented primarily European plaintiffs in high-stakes civil litigation. Until 2010, he was the international advisor to Grais & Ellsworth LP, a New York law firm specialising in sub-prime mortgage litigation.

Business Background

After service in the Royal Marines, Michael was employed as a New York-based management consultant with responsibilities that included the reorganisation of the restaurant and airport concessions of the American News Corporation.

Between 1978 and 1990, Michael worked on Wall Street and in the City of London as a capital markets specialist. He managed proprietary trading desks at The Irving Trust Company, JP Morgan & Co. and Dillon Read.

In 1990, Michael was appointed senior executive officer of Ariel (UK) Limited, a member of the London Stock Exchange founded by a consortium of merchant banks including NM Rothschild, SG Warburg & Co and Lazard Brothers.

Michael is currently a non-executive director of Investors Capital Management, a fund manager based in Rowayton, Connecticut.

Personal

Michael lives in the Hampshire countryside with his wife Susie, the founder of Tower House Horses, an EAQ Learning Centre that develops and applies to practical effect, the ancient and sacred relationship between horses and humans.

Before commencing his vocation as a lawyer, Michael used to enjoy sailing, rugby, chess, eschatology, reading, riding motorcycles and just generally laying about.
